SHILLONG, June 14: A 31-year-old man identified as Johny Lyngdoh Mawlong was reportedly found hanging in a forested area near the Sericulture Department farm at Lawsohtun Block-6 on Saturday morning.
According to police, they received the information from the Rangbah Shnong (headman) of the locality early in the day.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Vivek Syiem, stated that an inquiry was initiated, during which the family and relatives of the deceased revealed that Johny had an argument with his younger brother around 11:30 p.m. on Friday. He reportedly left the house shortly after, at around 11:50 p.m.
At approximately 6 am on Saturday, the family was informed that he had been found hanging, Syiem said.
He added that the inquest suggested a case of suicide. The family requested exemption from a post-mortem examination, which was granted by the Magistrate.
The body was subsequently handed over to the relatives for the last rites.
