TURA, June 16: Tura Christian College on Monday organised an enriching interactive programme on Good Governance through the institution of Ombudsman featuring Cavouright P Marak, retired IFS officer and Chairman of Lokayukta, Meghalaya, as the keynote speaker.
Delivering a talk, Marak highlighted how the implicit provisions of the welfare state under the Directive Principles of State Policy of the Indian Constitution necessitate its implementation.
He stated that good governance makes public administration more inclusive and people-centric through the mechanism of Ombudsman or ombudsmanship.
The students actively participated in the interactive session, casting queries and remarks on the topic. The programme provided them with a deeper understanding of democratic accountability and encouraged them to think critically about their roles as informed citizens and future leaders. The event broadened their civic perspective and sparked a greater interest in governance and ethical public service.
