Meghalaya boxers shine at national c’ship in Rohtak

Shillong, June 20:The Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA) has announced a 12-member contingent comprising ten boys and two girls to represent the state at the 6th U-17 Boys & Girls National Boxing Championships currently underway in Rohtak, Haryana. The prestigious event is being held from June 19 to 25, 2025.
The selected boxers hail from various districts of the state, including East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, West and East Garo Hills, and Eastern West Khasi Hills. The team is accompanied by officials Mr. Jimy B Shadap and Mr. Noyontho Marak.
In the preliminary bouts, Ms. Ekrypangmeka Sohiong (Ri-Bhoi) made a strong start by defeating Ayushaben Chaudhari of Gujarat in the 44–46 kg category. Similarly, Banrap Syiem Malngiang (East Khasi Hills) registered a win over Kulungoi of Nagaland in the 48–50 kg category.However, Ms. Evanjalyne Sohbar and Erickson Kahit bowed out after losing their respective preliminary bouts.
The selected participants for the championship from Meghalaya include ten boys and two girls. The boys are Kyrshan Swer (44–46 kg, East Khasi Hills), Karan Sunar (46–48 kg, Ri-Bhoi), Banrap Syiem (48–50 kg, East Khasi Hills), Chingkam M Marak (50–52 kg, West Garo Hills), Erickson Kahit (52–54 kg, East Khasi Hills), Bitdor L Mawnai (54–57 kg, Eastern West Khasi Hills), Mangara Nongtdu (57–60 kg, East Khasi Hills), Disrang D Sangma (60–63 kg, East Garo Hills), Mark Akimbo D Marak (63–65 kg, East Garo Hills), and Casbe K Marak (66–70 kg, West Garo Hills). The girls’ team features Ekrypang Sohiong (44–46 kg) and Evanjalyne Sohbar (46–48 kg), both from Ri-Bhoi district.
