Polo, Golf Link and NST marked as business districts

SHILLONG, June 20: The state government has issued a notification, designating Polo area including the Shillong Recreation Ground Trust (SRGT) land up to Golf Link and the New Shillong Township & Knowledge City up to Mawkhanu village as central business districts.
The designation is for areas already acquired by the state government.
According to the notification issued by the Commissioner & Secretary, Urban Affairs Department, these areas have been declared as central business districts under Section D10 of the Meghalaya Building Bye Laws, 2021 for the purpose of sustainable urban planning and development regulations.
The notification stated that all provisions of the Building Bye Laws relating to central business districts shall be applicable to the designated areas.
Commercial and business hubs of a city are often termed as central business districts and are characterised by high land values, dense construction, and a concentration of offices, retail, and commercial establishments.
