Angry mob thrashes man to death near Rajabala

Rajabala, June 21: A resident of Morasuti in Selsella, West Garo Hills, Aminul Islam (32), was killed on Saturday after he allegedly attacked another resident of the same village under Rajabala police station in West Garo Hills around 5:15 PM, before angry villagers chased and assaulted him, leading to his death.
According to the sources, Islam, who was mentally unsound, attacked one Fulbahar Sheikh with a dao (machete). Following the attack on Sheikh, Islam tried to flee from the spot but was chased by irate villagers who assaulted him while he was trying to make his escape.
As a result of the assault on Islam, he suffered deep lacerated wounds to his head and other parts of his body leading to him dying on the spot, just beside Durga Mandir in New Bhaitbari, before the police could intervene.
According to the Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills, Abraham T Sangma, the situation was brought under control and the mob had dispersed.
A case is being registered and the body of Islam currently under custody of the police for necessary action.
