83 Bangladeshi nationals held in east Delhi for illegal stay
New Delhi, June 29: Delhi Police has apprehended 83 Bangladeshi nationals, including 33 minors, from various localities of east Delhi for staying illegally in the national capital, an official on Sunday said. The action was part of an ongoing special drive launched in November 2024 to identify and take legal action against illegal immigrants, police said. “So far, a total of 120 Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehend under the drive,” said the officer. Of the 83 people detained, 44 are women and 39 are men, he added. The officer said that they were found residing in areas, including Mandawali, Mayur Vihar, Kalyanpuri and localities like Ghazipur and Anand Vihar. (PTI)

First phase of the Census to begin from April 1, 2026
New Delhi, June 29: The houselisting operations for the forthcoming Census will begin from April 1, 2026, marking the start of the first phase of the decennial exercise, the Registrar General of India has said. In a letter to chief secretaries of states and Union Territories, Census Commissioner and Registrar General of India Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan said the Houselisting Operations and Housing Census shall begin on April 1, 2026. Before that the appointment of supervisors, enumerators and work distribution among them shall be done with cooperation from states and district administration, it said. The Census is a two-phase exercise – in phase one i.e. Houselisting Operation (HLO), the housing conditions, assets and amenities of each household will be collected. Subsequently, in the second phase i.e. Population Enumeration (PE), the demographic, socio-economic, cultural and other details of every person in each household will be collected which is scheduled for February 1, 2027, according to the letter. In the Census, Caste enumeration will also be done, a government statement had said. (PTI)

Man held for offering namaz on temple premises
Budaun (UP), June 29: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for offering namaz in the temple premises in Dataganj area in Budaun district, police said. Circle Officer KK Tiwari said that a video went viral of a man offering namaz in the premises of an ancient temple named Brahmadev Devasthan in Papad village of Dataganj Police Station area. Some Hindu organisations staged a protest over this incident, police said. Tiwari said that police force was deployed in the temple premises and a man, identified as Ali Hasan, who was seen offering namaz in the video, was arrested. (PTI)
