JOWAI, July 5: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Jowai Block, on Saturday felicitated 137 students who excelled in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations during a programme held at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai.
The event was attended by Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla as the chief guest, along with members of the Jowai Committee of the NPP, village elders and parents of the students.
Addressing the gathering, Shylla, who is also the state president of NPYF Meghalaya, made it clear that the felicitation was not a political programme but an effort to motivate and recognise students from the region who scored 80 per cent and above, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
He also praised a student from Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Jowai, who topped the Commerce stream, and shared that the NPYF is exploring ways to provide further support to students, including plans to set up a Student Cell in Jowai.
On the other hand, NPYF Jowai Block president, Samehi Laloo, acknowledged the support of the MLA and the collaboration of party members from West Jaintia Hills district in making the programme possible.
During the programme, the students were encouraged to set clear goals to achieve success as well as asked to maintain discipline and good character in their daily lives.
It may be mentioned that of the 137 students felicitated, 74 had succeeded in the SSLC and 63 in the HSSLC examinations.
The programme also featured musical performances by the students, which added vibrancy to the day’s celebration.
