Party to contest select seats in GHADC polls

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, July 5: The state BJP on Saturday rejected allegations of being a religious party and asserted that it stands for the poor and their development, which, according to the party, is now well understood by people on the ground in Meghalaya.
“We are trying our level best. People have started accepting us all across Meghalaya, we have seen. Earlier, due to false rumours and propaganda, people thought that we are a different party and tagged us as anti-Christian, but now it is different. We have nothing to do with religion. We are for the poor and the development of the poor,” said state BJP president, Rikman Momin.
He made these remarks while speaking about the BJP making inroads into the state, especially in view of the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
“We will be fighting hard. All along, we are preparing ourselves. Our leaders of Garo Hills have their own strategy, and we are working on it accordingly,” the state BJP chief said.
He also informed that instead of fielding candidates randomly, the BJP will follow a strategy of pick and choose, depending on the seats. “We will contest potential seats only,” he said.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been kind and has given lots of schemes for the poor and development funds. If people elect us, then we definitely will show the change in the GHADC,” Momin added.
