SHILLONG, July 6: Kiddies Corner Secondary School witnessed a spectacular celebration of creativity, sustainability, and self-expression at the much-anticipated ‘La Mode – a Fashion Show Contest,’ where students design, stitch and model their creations. It was held as part of the school’s annual grand ‘Tartan Heart Festival, 2025’. This year’s edition pushed boundaries and redefined school fashion shows with an explosion of style, artistry, and eco-conscious innovation.
La Mode ’25 featured an exciting array of rounds, including a ‘Hair and Makeup round’, a design your own Street Fashion for Shillong, a ‘Body Art round’, a bold ‘Styling Round for our Teachers’ that received overwhelming applause from students and staff alike.
One of the most inspiring highlights was the ‘Upcycle Challenge’, where participants from classes 4 to 6 turned old clothes into stunning new designs, crafted jewellery from recycled materials, and transformed discarded items into runway-ready outfits—echoing the festival’s spirit of sustainability and imagination. A panel of celebrated judges from the world of fashion and art added prestige to the event:
Wanda Nongbri, Miss Angelia N Marwein (Miss Femina North East India 2024), renowned designer Daniel Syiem, visual artist Badap Hynniewta, and fashion expert Gracey Nandy brought their expertise and vision to the runway, carefully evaluating each participant’s flair, creativity, and presentation.
After a dazzling display of style and storytelling, Teresa House emerged as the ‘Overall Champion of ‘La Mode 2025’.
Individual excellence shone bright as well, with ‘Serenia Dkhar’ of class 10 winning ‘Best Model – Female Category’, and Gideon Nongrum of class 6 taking home the title of ‘Best Model – Male Category’.
The event not only celebrated fashion but also encouraged students to think critically about sustainability, self-identity, and the power of creativity.
In the words of the Headmaster, “La Mode is more than a show—it’s a platform for our students to speak without words, to create without limits, and to express who they truly are.”
As the Tartan Heart Festival continues to grow each year, La Mode remains a shining symbol of KC Secondary School’s commitment to nurturing artistic excellence, innovation, and purpose-driven expression among the youth.
