Tura, July 6: Senseless digging on two sections of an under construction road near the district headquarter of North Garo Hills (NGH), Resubelpara, has left residents fuming as it has now left at least 30 households completely stranded.
The road in question is the under construction road between Rome Rabha and Daram Tekalang.
“This senseless digging up of two sections for the setting up of hume pipes within the route has left us all fuming. Now at least 400 metres of the route is completely blocked and we can’t use our cars to commute. If they actually had to dig up two sections, they should have at least created a sub-way for people and vehicles to move. Where did these people get their sense from,” asked one resident from Rome Rabha.
Angry residents have taken up the matter with the construction company as well as the department seeking an answer to the mess that has been created. The on-site ‘mohori’, one Altub Hussain was asked for an explanation while the department, upon being informed, stated that this was totally uncalled for and should not have taken place. They informed that a visit would be undertaken to see how things can be worked out. “It was done without foresight and we are unhappy that we are being punished for their foolishness. The department needs to really look at who they give projects to in the future. We understand that the road needs to be dug up for construction but to do so at two points without leaving a way through is utter disregard to the people of the area,” felt another.
