Meghalaya taekwondo body gears up for National Games 2027

Tura, July 13: The Meghalaya Taekwondo Association (MTA) has begun preparations in full swing for the 39th National Games 2027, which will be hosted by the state.
In this regard, the association convened a crucial General Body meeting on Saturday at Ringregittim in Tura.The meeting was attended by executive members representing various districts, including West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and East Khasi Hills. During the session, members engaged in detailed discussions on the selection process, including the age and weight categories, and the number of athletes to be shortlisted at both district and state levels.
In an official statement, the Association informed that Training-cum-Selection Trials have already commenced in some districts.
The trials will continue across the state and are expected to conclude between July and September 2025, covering all Taekwondo disciplines.
With the countdown to the National Games underway, the MTA is focused on identifying and grooming top talent to represent Meghalaya on the national stage.
The upcoming months will be crucial for the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association as it seeks to build a formidable squad capable of competing at the highest level during the 39th National Games. With the event set to be hosted in the state, the pressure and excitement of performing on home soil adds further motivation for athletes and coaches alike. The Association’s emphasis on grassroots development, transparent selection procedures, and early training initiatives reflects its commitment to excellence. Beyond preparing athletes for the Games, the MTA also aims to foster a culture of discipline, fitness, and sportsmanship among the youth across Meghalaya.
