IIM Shillong welcomes new PGP, doctoral prog batches

SHILLONG, July 15: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong inaugurated the 13th batch of its Doctoral programme (residential) batch of 2025 and the 18th batch of its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP 2025–27) during a ceremonial commencement held on campus.
Prof Nalini Prava Tripathy, Director (I/C), IIM Shillong, welcomed the incoming participants.
The event was graced by Parmod Kamlani, Partner at EY Strategy & Transaction and GDS Transaction & Corporate Finance Leader as chief guest.
In his inaugural address, Kamlani reflected on the influence of faith in his personal journey and the power of aligning one’s words with actions. He emphasized the fundamental role of trust-building in professional and personal spheres, urging students to cultivate authenticity and consistency as future leaders.
The cohort for Doctoral Programme (residential) batch of 2025 comprises five scholars, representing five different states of India. The group holds 100% non-engineering backgrounds with a gender distribution of 60% male and 40% female, and an average age of 25.6 years. The admissions process for the doctoral program included two rounds of rigorous personal interviews held across major cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Kolkata.
The flagship PGP 2025–27 saw the registration of 405 participants selected from over 2.3 lakh applicants who expressed interest in IIM Shillong via CAT 2024. The batch comprises 58% male and 42% female students, with a nearly even split between engineering (46%) and non-engineering (54%) backgrounds. The average age of the cohort is 25.2 years, with 72% of the students bringing prior work experience—mostly in the one to three years bracket. This vibrant and diverse batch represents 22 states and 4 Union Territories from across the country.
Prof. Bidyut Jyoti Gogoi, Chairperson – Admissions, presented an overview of both the PGP and Doctoral Program (residential), while Prof Mousumi Bhattacharya, Chairperson – Doctoral Programs and Prof Subhadip Mukherjee, Chairperson – PGP, introduced the programmes respectively
Prof Rohit Joshi, Dean – Academics, administered the formal Pledge of Commitment to the students of both batches, marking the beginning of their academic journey at IIM Shillong.
