Man, two kids dead as truck hits two-wheeler
THANE, July 18: A man and his two children died as their motorbike was dashed by a truck in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra.Gopal Chandanse (36), his wife and two kids were riding to their village when the truck dashed the two-wheeler from behind around 3.30 pm.They were taken to the hospital where Gopal, his son Hriday (7) and daughter Avani (9) were declared dead. Gopal’s wife Meenabai (32) was injured and undergoing treatment.The truck driver fled from the spot, leaving his vehicle behind. Further probe was on, the official said. (PTI)
Three elephants run over by train in Bengal
JHARGRAM, July 18: Three elephants, including two calves, were run over by an express train near Banstala railway station in West Bengal’s Paschim Midnapore district, police said on Friday.The incident occurred when an elephant herd was traversing.The three pachyderms were mowed on the tracks by a speeding Janshatabdi Express on the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section, a police officer said.It was difficult to go near the carcasses for some time, as the herd of 30 elephants was passing through the area, he said.Chief Conservator of Forests S Kulandaive told PTI it was an unfortunate incident, and despite informing the Railways “three hours before the movement of the herd”, the tragedy could not be averted. Autorickshaw driver throws acid on woman homeguard
AHMEDABAD, July 18: An autorickshaw driver was on Friday arrested for allegedly throwing acid on a woman home guard after she pulled him up for improper parking.The home guard, who was directing traffic at a junction in Kalol town, escaped with minor burn injuries, an official said.After being scolded by the home guard for improper parking, the accused, Ashok Ravat, threw acid from a bottle he brought from his home. The home guard escaped with minor burn injuries as only a few drops of acid fell on her back. (PTI)
Right-wing group forcibly shuts down KFC outlet in Ghaziabad
GHAZIABAD, July 18: Members of a right-wing Hindu group allegedly shut down a KFC outlet forcibly in UP’s Ghaziabad, protesting against the sale of meat during the ongoing holy month of Sawan and Kanwar Yatra. A purported video of the incident began doing rounds on social media on Friday.Sources indicate that despite there being no official ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food items in the region during Sawan, the group moved to halt operations at the fast-food outlet. The purported video of the incident shows the group chanting slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as they confronted the restaurant staff before forcibly pulling down the shutters. Meanwhile a police statement released here said, “Taking cognisance of the said incident, a case has already been registered at the Indirapuram police station in connection with the incident. All these individuals are being identified, and further action will be taken based on facts.” (PTI)
