JOWAI, July 19: Around 150 saplings were on Saturday planted along the Jowai-Shillong highway at Riat Turiem during a tree plantation drive led by headman of Chilliang Raij, Jowai, DH Pde, along with members of the locality.
The plantation included a variety of native species such as Champa, Rtiang, Puma, Satew, Dieng-doh and Sohphie, among others.
During the plantation drive, Pde stated that the same was conducted as a gesture of gratitude towards mother nature and the landowners, while also aligning with the global observance of World Environment Day.
He said that it is the collective responsibility of every citizen to care for and protect the environment, particularly at a time when concerns over environmental degradation are increasing.
