KHARKUTTA, July 21: Residents of Kharkutta along with police personnel from across North Garo Hills are currently conducting a frenetic search for a 6-year-old girl, who was allegedly kidnapped from near her home on Saturday.
Incidentally, the girl was last seen in front of her house at about 11 am after which she was apparently lured by the suspect who took her with him. The suspect was then identified by the family and a case registered.
The area from where the girl was kidnapped is densely forested which had led to difficulty in locating the victim as well as the suspect who is said to be hiding in the same area. The fate of the 6-year-old girl remains unknown despite the massive hunt to locate her.
“We are on the lookout for the victim and the suspect and are hoping the girl is safe. Our teams, along with the local population have continued the search for both of them since the incident but the terrain poses a serious challenge. We have requested drone support from both Shillong and Tura after which we hope we will be able to provide more answers,” said North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Swapnil Pawar. Meanwhile, shocked locals from the Kharkutta area have condemned the incident even as they continue the desperate search for the minor girl.
Most locals feared the worst in the case but said they would continue the search until the young girl is located or the suspect is nabbed by either them or the police.
