Tura, July 23: The protest for their salaries of 42 months led by the Non Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) entered its tenth day today, with no end in sight after the protest leaders informed that no overture was made by the ruling dispensation led by the NPP to provide them any form of assurances.
The NGEA has demanded at least 12 months of the 42 months pending be paid to them before they call off their protest even as the venue of the protest moved from the Gandhi Park premises to the William Point, just before the premises of the GHADC premises.
“We were contacted last Friday by the ruling MDCs who requested us to call off the protest but gave us no assurances on how they plan to work out our 12 month salary demand. We will continue the silent sit-in demonstration until our demands are met,” said NGEA president, Brithen Sangma.
The protest today, Jul 23, was joined by Opposition MDCs including the TMC and BJP. Even on the 10th of the protest, more than 300 employees continued to sit in protest with many expressing anguish over the situation.
