SHILLONG, Aug 2: The Meghalaya government has released Rs 35 crore to the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) as its revenue share from royalties on minerals and vehicle taxes for the 2025-26 financial year.
The release is expected to provide relief to thousands of Council employees who have not received their salaries for several months.
The sanction order was issued by the District Council Affairs Department with approval from the Finance Department.
The Council requires Rs 8.45 crore every month to meet its salary and pension obligations.
Over 1,100 Council employees have gone without salaries for the past seven months due to delays in receiving its revenue share.
The Rs 35-crore fund is expected to ease the burden on the current Executive Committee, which has been facing criticism from all quarters over the financial crisis in the council.
