SHILLONG, Aug 8: The state government is in an advanced stage of dialogue with Army authorities to get a new patch of land to relocate the settlers of Harijan Colony.
Informing this on Friday, Chief Secretary Donald P. Wahlang said talks are ongoing for a patch of land near Anjalee Parking Lot that could be used to relocate 342 families from the colony.
The state government believes that the new land is adequate for the relocation of all the families residing in Harijan Colony.
“We hope to get a positive response on the matter,” Wahlang said.
The demand for relocation of settlers at Them Iew Mawlong gained momentum after violent clashes erupted in the area in 2018.
Following these incidents, the Meghalaya government formed a high-level committee, which recommended relocation of the 342 families.
