SHILLONG, Aug 9: The United Democratic Party has strongly condemned the brazen attack on Christian priests and nuns in Odisha’s Jaleswar, allegedly carried out by Bajrang Dal members.
UDP general secretary Titosstarwell Chyne on Saturday said this violent act, fueled by false accusations of religious conversion, is a disturbing reminder of the growing intolerance and extremism in the country.
“We demand immediate action against the perpetrators, regardless of their affiliations, and guarantee protection for priests, nuns, and Christian institutions, especially in sensitive areas,” Chyne said while adding that the Government of India and the state government of Odisha must take concrete steps to prevent such incidents and uphold the constitutional values of religious freedom and human dignity and to protect the rights of the minority communities.
