SHILLONG, Aug 11: The KSU Laban Circle, in the wee hours of Sunday, apprehended two alleged illegal immigrants from Oxford Hills, which falls under Dorbar Shnong Kenches Trace Oxford Rilbong.
The two failed to provide any documents to prove their identity when questioned by KSU members, though they claimed to have come to work at a house in Oxford. Upon searching the house where they were staying, the KSU found another four individuals who also did not possess valid documents.
KSU Laban Circle information and publicity secretary, Franky Rani, said that the six alleged illegal immigrants managed to enter Meghalaya by claiming they were visiting as tourists.
Rani alleged that they entered the state with the help of one Shajahan Ali from Assam, who resides in Laban.
He informed that all six individuals were handed over to the Rilbong Beat House.
Meanwhile, Rani said that KSU members on Monday went to Shajahan Ali’s residence and managed to chase him out. According to the KSU, Ali claims to be a contractor and is known to bring people from outside the state, possibly illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
The KSU has warned house owners in Laban area not to rent out their properties to outsiders, especially in light of the Assam government’s ongoing eviction of Bangladeshi Muslims.
“We have warned the residents of Laban not to give shelter to Bangladeshi Muslims who have been evicted from Assam. We will be forced to act against house owners if they rent their houses to illegal Bangladeshi Muslims,” he added.
