TURA, Aug 12: A complaint has been submitted to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner raising concern about the authenticity of a recent Job Mela organized in the district.
The complaint submitted by one, Tambu M Sangma, seemingly a social activist, pointed out that while the initiative appeared promising and gave hope to many unemployed youths, there were growing doubts and fears among the public regarding its authenticity and effectiveness.
“Many young people in Garo Hills are currently struggling with unemployment. The Job Mela was widely advertised, and naturally, it attracted a large number of job-seekers who are desperate for opportunities. However, there is a rising concern that the organizers may not be genuinely committed to the welfare of our youth. Some fear that this event may have been misleading or even a scam, possibly resembling a Ponzi scheme, which could exploit the vulnerability of job-hungry individuals,” it said.
The complaint urged the district authority to look into the matter and verify the credentials of the organizers.
“It is important to ensure that such events are transparent, accountable, and truly beneficial to the people of Garo Hills. If the Job Mela was legitimate, we would appreciate knowing the outcomes—how many youths were placed, and what kind of jobs were offered. If not, necessary action should be taken to prevent future exploitation,” the complaint added.
