SHILLONG, Aug 12: The construction of two key road projects worth Rs 25 crore under the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase III is progressing rapidly in Mawkynrew, East Khasi Hills.
The projects include a 5.6 km road from Mawkynrew to Pingwait, sanctioned at Rs 7.20 crore, and a 19 km road from Mawkynrew to Nohron, approved at Rs 17.82 crore. On Tuesday, local NPP MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh, accompanied by PWD officials and traditional leaders of the area, inspected the ongoing works and expressed satisfaction over the progress so far.
Apart from the road projects, Lyngdoh also reviewed several other development initiatives in the constituency. He inspected the construction of the Dorbar Shnong Thangsning community hall, for which Rs 10 lakh has been allocated under the Special Rural Work Programme (SRWP), and the retaining wall at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Mawkynrew, funded under the same scheme. He also visited St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Mawkynrew, the site of a proposed approach road, and held discussions with Dr J Slong, in-charge of Jatah Primary Health Centre (PHC).
Reiterating his commitment to improving infrastructure and basic amenities, Lyngdoh said these projects, once completed, will significantly benefit local communities.
