SHILLONG, Aug 13: The state government has vowed not to allow any drama by landowners over land compensation issues that are creating hurdles in the execution of the Shillong Western Bypass project.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said often after the payment of land compensation, someone else comes up and claims ownership over the land.
“We will process those grievances and petitions made by everyone but we make it clear that as long as the ownership is not resolved, we will not make the payment even if the land has been given,” he said.
Informing that the government has taken over the possession of the land and handed over to NHIDCL, Tynsong admitted that whenever work starts, some individuals or groups create problems.
“I have instructed the DCs to let the law take its own course and if needed we will also give security but we will not allow this drama to continue,” he said while adding that the Shillong Western Bypass is meant for the public and not for a few landowners with vested interests.
The work on the Western Bypass has been delayed due to frequent opposition by individuals over land ownership issues.
