TURA, Aug 18: National Highway 127 B, stretching from Agia in Assam to Tura via Tikrikilla, Phulbari, and Rajabala, has become nothing more than a monument to administrative neglect and broken promises, the Centre for Environment Protection and Rural Development (CEPARD) said on Monday venting frustration and ire over pitiable state of the said road.
“The current state of NH-127 B can only be described as deplorable. What should be a smooth highway has become a gauntlet of hazards testing every traveler’s endurance. The road surface is marred by countless potholes—some resembling small craters, others wide enough to swallow motorcycle wheels entirely. Bitumen has peeled away in numerous sections, leaving raw gravel and earth that transform into muddy quagmires during monsoons,” CEPARD president Samgar R Sangma said.
Sangma said that the deplorable condition of the road was affecting people from all walks of life including school students, local populace as well as small business owners and vendors.
According to Sangma, the same was also affecting the punctuality of public transport vehicles as well as emergency service vehicles and ambulances.
Sangma has blamed it on the inefficiency of local MLA A T Mondal claiming that promises were made by the MLA only during election campaigns but forgotten soon after.
“The people of Phulbari deserve better than roads endangering safety, damaging vehicles, compromising health, and limiting opportunities. They deserve representatives fighting for their interests rather than ignoring pleas for basic improvements. The time for excuses has passed—meaningful action addressing these deplorable conditions is demanded now,” he said.
