Wolverhampton, Aug 19: Wolves have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of Jackson Tchatchoua from Hellas Verona in a deal worth €12.5 million (£10.8m). The Cameroon international has penned a five-year contract with the Premier League club.
Capable of operating as a right-back or wing-back, the 23-year-old arrives with a reputation for blistering pace. He was officially recognised as Serie A’s fastest player last season, recording an average top speed of 34.88 km/h and clocking a season-best of 36.3 km/h.
Tchatchoua’s figures put him just shy of Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, who topped the Premier League speed charts in 2024–25 at 37.1 km/h and holds the league record of 37.38 km/h.
Born in Belgium, Tchatchoua began his career at Charleroi before moving to Verona, initially on loan in 2023. He made the switch permanent the following year and went on to feature in 37 matches last season, contributing two goals and three assists.
The defender becomes Wolves’ fifth signing of the summer. The Midlands side have already secured the permanent arrival of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for £23m after a fruitful loan, alongside forward Fer Lopez (£19m), winger Jhon Arias (£15m) and defender David Moller Wolfe (£10m).
Wolves will hope Tchatchoua’s pace and versatility can provide an extra dimension as they prepare for the new Premier League campaign. (Agencies)
