MAWKYRWAT, Aug 22: A team comprising Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L. Tongkhar, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner B. Mawlong, Director of the Directorate of Arts & Culture Iadarisha Majaw, and other officials on Friday inspected three sites in different parts of Mawkyrwat to identify land for the construction of the district auditorium-cum-cultural centre.
The sites inspected included one at Laitlawsang near the Mini Secretariat, one at Tynrong under Mawlangwir village and another at Mawmerang village. All these lands belong to the government.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Tongkhar said the prime objective was to identify which site would be most suitable for constructing the district auditorium-cum-cultural centre.
“Till now we have not finalised where we will construct the centre, but we will discuss this in the office and then decide which one is better. After that we can go ahead with the proposal and start preparing for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) according to the situation of the land,” Tongkhar said.
“With the cooperation of all the departments, soon South West Khasi Hills district will get its own District Auditorium because as of now we do not have the district library and district auditorium, which are very important,” he remarked, expressing optimism that the project will soon become a reality.
