Tejashwi Yadav booked in UP for calling Modi ‘vote thief’
Shahjahanpur (UP), Aug 23:Police here have lodged an FIR against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav over a social media post attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an officer said on Saturday. A complaint in the matter was filed by the BJP’s city president, Shilpi Gupta. SP Rajesh Dwivedi said, “The FIR was registered on Friday.” Gupta’s complaint alleges that Yadav’s “indecorous comment” against the prime minister caused “immense anger among the people of the country.” The FIR, registered at the Sadar Bazar Police Station, alleges that the post “created significant resentment among the general public and BJP workers.” Meanwhile, a separate FIR was filed against Yadav in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, on the complaint of local MLA Milind Narote. Medical student on ventilator after having tea from canteen
Ranchi, Aug 23: A first-year postgraduate student of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Jharkhand’s apex health institute Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi was on a ventilator after allegedly drinking tea from the hospital’s canteen, officials said. Apparently, it is a case of poisoning, the spokesperson of the state-run institute said. The 25-year-old woman suddenly fell ill after having tea ordered from the canteen near the orthopaedic ward of the hospital and was rushed to the intensive care unit, where she has been kept on a ventilator. The student was on duty at night on Thursday, and several doctors ordered tea from the canteen. “She poured the tea into a flask in order to drink it at a time when they would be free. After finishing her work, she took a couple of sips of tea and said it was not good and smelled bad, so the rest of the doctors did not take it,” the official said. After some time, she fell ill and fainted and was taken to the emergency department. (PTI)
Syrian man claiming to raise funds for Gaza victims arrested
Ahmedabad, Aug 23: A Syrian national who was raising funds from mosques here purportedly for the needy residents of war-torn Gaza has been arrested while his three compatriots are absconding, police said. The accused and his associates appeared to be using the money collected in the name of Gaza victims to finance their lavish lifestyle, and it is also suspected that they were in the city to conduct a recce for some purpose, a senior police official said. Ali Meghat Al-Azhar (23) was arrested from a hotel in Ellis Bridge area, Joint Commissioner of Police Sharad Singhal said. The absconding Syrians, who were staying in the same hotel, were identified as Zakaria Haitham Alzar, Ahmed Alhabash and Yousef Al-Zahar. “Based on a tip-off, we nabbed Al-Azhar, a resident of Damascus. We found USD 3,600 and Rs 25,000 in cash from his possession. The other three went underground after his arrest,” said Singhal. A look-out notice has been issued against them so that they can not flee India, he said. The four Syrians came to India on tourist visas and landed in Kolkata on July 22. They reached Ahmedabad on August 2, Singhal said. (PTI)
