Shillong to host 2nd inter-school table tennis championship

Shillong, Aug 23: The Laban Sports Club Table Tennis Academy, in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), Government of Meghalaya, will host the 2nd Inter-School Table Tennis Championship, 2025, on September 4 and 5 at the Laban Sports Club Indoor Hall.
The two-day event will feature competitions in the Under-12 Boys and Girls Team Events and the Under-17 Boys and Girls Team Events, bringing together budding talents from various schools across Shillong and beyond.The championship aims to provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills and passion for the sport, while also encouraging schools to nurture table tennis as part of their sporting culture.
Schools interested in participating can submit their entries by September 2, 2025. For registration and details, they may contact the organisers at 87876 05291, 69090 76082, or 94025 08332.
Following the inter-school championship, the Meghalaya Open Table Tennis Tournament will be held on September 12 and 13, also at the Laban Sports Club Indoor Hall.
Organisers said the events promise to be an exciting showcase of emerging talent, while also strengthening the foundation of table tennis in the state through school-level and open competitions.
With school-level contests followed by the state-level open tournament, September is set to become a celebration of table tennis in Shillong.
For many of these youngsters, the championship will not just be about medals, but about learning, competing, and carrying forward a sport that is steadily gaining ground in Meghalaya’s sporting landscape.
