CAIRO, Aug 24: Israeli airstrikes hit Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Sunday, days after Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a missile toward Israel, reportedly targeting areas including a power plant and gas station. Residents reported strong explosions near the presidential palace.
The Houthis vowed to continue attacks unless the Gaza conflict ends. Israel has not confirmed the strike.
A missile launched Friday by the Houthis toward Israel contained cluster munitions, marking a new threat. Over the past two years, Houthi attacks have disrupted Red Sea shipping.
A prior U.S.-brokered deal paused airstrikes but didn’t stop attacks on Israel-linked targets. May strikes damaged Sanaa’s airport and aircraft. (AP)
