M’laya chess players shine in nat’l tourneys

Shillong, Aug 28:Young chess talents from Meghalaya have brought laurels to the state by winning prizes at two prestigious FIDE-rated tournaments held this month.
At the 2nd Guwahati Smart City International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2025, held from August 4 to 8, Nikman G. Momin secured 2nd place in the Below-14 category, while Silkam A. Sangma clinched 5th position in the Below-1850 category.
Adding to the state’s success, a father-daughter duo excelled at the 1st Andaman & Nicobar International Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2025, organised in Port Blair from August 23 to 28. Silseng N. Marak claimed the top spot in the Below-1700 category, while Cheaha Nikgame G. Momin impressed with her performance in the Female Under-13 category.
