SHILLONG: The state government is likely to sponsor a part of the financial cost for students pursuing MBBS at the PA Sangma International Medical College at USTM.
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Sunday said a proposal in this regard is being fine-tuned and will soon be sent to the Cabinet for approval.
“We are aware that the cost of studying an MBBS course in a private institution is much higher than the sponsored seats that we get from the Government of India. In such a situation, some of our students who do not qualify adequately to receive a sponsored seat in the main counselling rounds will reach out to private institutions like USTM because it is within Meghalaya and has received necessary permissions and NOCs from the Government of Meghalaya,” Lyngdoh said.
