SHILLONG, Sep 1: The mortal remains of 26-year-old Jonathan Rynjah, who passed away in Kerala, arrived at the Guwahati airport on Monday night.
A police mortuary van, accompanied by Jonathan’s family members, was present at the airport to receive the body.
From there, the family plans to take the body directly to the cemetery at Sunapani in Nongkwar where his remains will be laid to rest.
It may be noted that the family managed to bring Jonathan’s body home with assistance from the police and Mawlai MLA, Brightstarwell Marbaniang.
Earlier, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem had informed that, Jonathan was travelling by train to Palakkad, Kerala, on August 29 when railway staff discovered that a toilet in one of the coaches was locked from the inside.
Upon forcing it open, they found Jonathan’s body inside.
The remains were then taken to Palakkad District Hospital, where a post-mortem was conducted on Sunday to determine the cause of death.
A case of unnatural death has since been registered at the Palakkad Railway Police Station.
Jonathan’s family was first informed of the tragic incident by Kerala police on Friday morning.
