SHILLONG, Sep 13: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Saturday claimed that the Conrad K. Sangma-led MDA 1 as well as MDA 2.0 government failed to deliver on all fronts.
Talking to reporters, VPP president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit noted that numerous issues and development projects remain unresolved and incomplete.
Recalling that the people of the state had a lot of expectations from the MDA 1 government when it was installed more than seven and half years ago, he said even after the passage of such a long time, no tangible results are visible.
“Reports, which appear in the media from time to time, speak of the fact that the government has miserably failed to deliver and live up to people’s expectations,” he said, adding that crimes, including theft and robbery, are on the rise and people are not feeling safe.
“Going by the present situation, I can tell you that by the end of this term, all homes in Shillong will be subjected to robbery as this has become the order of the day,” Basaiawmoit said.
He said the government says something inside the Assembly and does exactly the opposite outside it.
According to the VPP chief, people closed to the establishment are prospering while the ordinary people on the streets are suffering as there is no equitable distribution of wealth and opportunities.
He alleged that the government is attempting to prevent the Opposition from raising issues in the House as very few days are allotted and MLAs cannot raise many issues in such a short session.
He said more than ten motions were tabled in the autumn session but only one was disposed, while three resolutions were listed but one was disposed.
