SHILLONG, Sep 13: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has urged the Ri-Bhoi district administration and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to remain prepared for any eventuality as the state continues to witness heavy rains.
Referring to recent landslides on the busy Shillong-Guwahati highway, the MLA said that he too was stuck in traffic during the recently held Assembly session but somehow managed to reach on time.
“I have asked the ADM (Revenue) and NHAI to be on alert and to be prepared for any circumstances and to ensure that traffic on this very busy highway is not affected,” he said.
Earlier this week, traffic along the Shillong-Guwahati highway was affected for some time following two landslides in Sumer and in the Mawiong-Umiam stretch.
Meanwhile, the legislator has also asked the state government to take all stakeholders on board and ensure that the ongoing confrontation between the Tourist Taxi Associations of Assam and Meghalaya is amicably resolved.
“Hope it will be a win-win situation for both the associations and even for tourists,” the MLA said.
