JOWAI, Sep 18: To celebrate inclusivity and raise awareness on the rights and contributions of persons with disabilities (PwDs), a daylong Purple Fair was held at District Library, Mynthong, Jowai.
Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla attended the event as the chief guest, along with key officials, including West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh, Commissioner for PwDs L. Kynjing, et al.
The fair was jointly organised by the CRCSRE-Shillong under SVNIRTAR-Cuttack, Department of Empowerment of PwDs, in collaboration with the West Jaintia Hills District Administration and Social Welfare Office. Over 764 people participated, including 389 PwDs, making it a vibrant platform for awareness, inclusion, and showcasing talents and services by PwDs.
During the event, Shylla praised CRCSRE’s role in empowering PwDs and encouraged them to believe in their potential. He visited stalls, interacted with beneficiaries and supported their work by purchasing handmade items.
Other dignitaries stressed the need for continued efforts in accessibility, social integration and inclusive development.
The fair featured 33 stalls by PwDs, cultural performances, exhibitions and awareness sessions on disability rights and government schemes.
