SHILLONG, Sep 22: The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, will celebrate National Ayurveda Day on Tuesday, with Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla as the chief guest.
This year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” underscores the role of Ayurveda in fostering a healthier society and a sustainable world.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, NEIAH Assistant Professor of Ayurveda Dr. Verity Markhap said the institute has organised a series of programmes in the run-up to the celebration.
These include medical camps in five villages, which benefitted around 500 people with free health check-ups, drawing competitions for schoolchildren, and lectures on Ayurveda delivered by NEIAH faculty at institutions such as IIT and IIHM.
In collaboration with the state government, NEIAH also hosted the Arogya Fair, while the Governor’s Secretariat supported the successful organisation of a “Run for Ayurveda” marathon.
Markhap added that several activities have also been conducted on the NEIAH campus as part of the celebrations. Through these initiatives, NEIAH is looking to raise awareness of Ayurveda in the Northeast and encourage people to embrace traditional healthcare practices for overall well-being.
