GUWAHATI, Sept 23: The final voter turnout in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, conducted across 40 constituencies in five districts on Monday, has been recorded at 78.42 percent, the Assam State Election Commission informed.
The highest turnout among the five districts was recorded in Кokrajhar (82.27 percent), followed by Chirang (80.11 percent); Baksa (76.92 percent); Udalguri (75.17 percent) and Tamulpur (75.09 percent).
The fate of 316 candidates (including candidates from national/state parties as well as Independents) are now locked in the ballot boxes.
The counting of votes will take place on September 26.
The high turnout, official sources said, was indicative of the active involvement and commitment of the electorate in the democratic process.
“The election was conducted peacefully, and all ballot boxes were returned safely, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. The Election Commission extends its gratitude to all voters, candidates and officials for their cooperation in making this election a resounding success,” a statement issued by the state election commission said.
Notably, there has been an increase of 11.35 percent voters this year from that of the BTC elections in 2020.
Votes were cast across 3359 polling stations, which is an increase of 6.77 percent from the BTC elections held in 2020, when there were 3146 polling stations.
Thirty constituencies out of the 40 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, five for non-Scheduled Tribes while the remaining five constituencies are in the open category.
