SHILLONG, Sep 23: An anti-drug march, organised by Mawkhar Dorbar Shnong, united residents, students, and community groups in a collective stand against substance abuse on Tuesday.
The rally, which saw the participation of around 250 students and local residents, began at the Mawkhar Community Hall and passed through YMCA, Motphran, GS Road, Dreamland Point, Ri Khasi Press, and Mawkhar Main Road before returning to the community hall.
The initiative was jointly supported by the Seng Samla, Seng Kynthei, and the locality’s Sports Club.
Speaking at the programme, Mawkhar Assistant Rangbah Shnong Ransom Sutnga said the Dorbar Shnong had resolved to take the lead in combating drugs.
“Everyone knows the harmful effects of drugs. But awareness alone is not enough. Now is the time for action to root out drugs from our society,” he said, urging students to spread the message of prevention and resistance against drug abuse.
