Deir Al-Balah, Sep 27: Israeli military actions in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 44 individuals, as reported by health officials, amidst rising international calls for a ceasefire.
Among the casualties, nine members from a single family died in an airstrike on a home in the Nuseirat refugee camp, while additional fatalities occurred when a strike impacted a tent sheltering displaced persons.
Despite these casualties, the Israeli army stated they were unaware of any gunfire-related deaths in southern Gaza and refrained from commenting on the airstrikes.
Dr. Mohamed Abu Selmiya, head of Shifa Hospital, expressed concern over the approach of Israeli tanks near the hospital, which hampers access for the 159 patients being treated.
He noted that continuous bombardments have not ceased, and while 14 premature infants require incubator care at Helou Hospital, the facility’s main entrance remains shut due to drone activity in the vicinity.

Despite increasing isolation from the global community and pressure to halt the conflict, Israel is intensifying its ground operations in Gaza City, amidst reports of worsening famine affecting the civilian population.
There are currently over 300,000 displaced individuals, with up to 700,000 remaining due to economic constraints preventing relocation.
Airstrikes have caused significant destruction, with strikes in Tufah neighborhood of Gaza City killing at least 11 individuals, predominantly women and children, while additional airstrikes in the Shati refugee camp and throughout southern and central Gaza resulted in more casualties.
The healthcare infrastructure in Gaza faces an overwhelming crisis, as several hospitals have become non-operational due to strikes, leading to severe shortages of medicines, food, and fuel.
Doctors Without Borders has halted operations in Gaza City citing unacceptable risks to its staff due to nearby military activity.
Aid access has drastically deteriorated, with Israel ceasing humanitarian deliveries into northern Gaza and denying UN requests for aid transportation across regions.
The Gaza Health Ministry reported a staggering toll of over 65,000 deaths and more than 167,000 injuries since the conflict escalated, although exact figures are contested, and distinctions between civilians and combatants are not made.
These casualties stem from an escalation triggered by a Hamas offensive against Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and the seizure of 251 hostages, most of whom have been released through ceasefires or negotiations.
Currently, 48 captives remain in Gaza, with Israeli authorities estimating that around 20 are still alive. (AP)
