NEW DELHI, Sep 27: India is set to host the World Seafood Congress (WSC) for the first time in 2026 in Chennai, celebrating its position as the world’s sixth-largest seafood supplier.
The biennial event, attended by industry leaders and policymakers, marks a significant opportunity to showcase India’s seafood sector.
The global seafood trade is projected to rise, with the FAO estimating it will reach USD 183.8 billion in 2025.
India’s marine product exports were valued at USD 7.38 billion in 2023-24, with total fish production at 18.40 million tonnes.
The event, co-organized by the Department of Fisheries and IAFI, will feature technical workshops and discussions on industry challenges, including sustainable practices and regulations.
