New Delhi, Sep 27: Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has come down hard on the national team’s sloppy fielding display in the Asia Cup, warning that the dropped chances could prove costly when they face arch-rivals Pakistan in the tournament final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
India’s catching woes have been glaring under the Dubai floodlights, with as many as 12 opportunities spilled before their final Super Fours clash against Sri Lanka on Friday. While captain Suryakumar Yadav brushed it off as “part of the game,” mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy admitted that the “ring of fire” around the stadium causes some disturbance in sighting the ball.Mishra, however, was far from convinced. The 42-year-old criticised the explanations offered by the players and urged head coach Gautam Gambhir and fielding coach T. Dilip to urgently address the issue.“You should practice. What is the fielding coach doing? He should make them practice taking catches under the light. You are professional cricketers, you have to work hard and adjust to it,” Mishra told ANI.(Agencies)
