Man shoots dead daughter, dumps body in river
MORENA (MP), Sep 28: A 17-year-old girl was shot dead allegedly by her father, who threw her body into a river, in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district in what police suspect to be a case of “honour killing”, an official said on Sunday.The body was retrieved from the Kwari river on Sunday, five days after the murder. Bharat, alias Bantu Sikarwar, was detained on Saturday after a neighbour tipped the police that the elder daughter of the accused had been missing. The caller also told the cops that he heard a gunshot and a scream from the Sikarwar’s house four days ago, the official said.Shukla said the accused initially gave evasive replies about Divya’s whereabouts. Upon sustained interrogation, he claimed that she died after a ceiling fan fell on her head and that he disposed of the body in Kwari river. (PTI)
Coaches of Bandra-Amritsar Express detach twice
MUMBAI, Sep 28: Two incidents of uncoupling of coaches of Bandra Terminus-Amritsar Paschim Express were reported within an hour on Sunday in Maharashtra and Gujarat, raising concerns regarding the safety of passengers.The first incident occurred between Vangaon and Dahanu stations at 1:19 pm, and another at Sanjan station in Gujarat around 2:10 pm, officials said.“There was no injury or inconvenience caused to any passenger, and there has been no impact on overall train operations,” said a Western Railway spokesperson.The train faced another uncoupling at Sanjan station, the spokesperson said, adding that Carriage and Wagon (C&W) staff from Valsad were mobilised, and a locomotive engine departed from Valsad at 3:15 pm to assist at the site.The train finally departed at 4:46pm, the spokesperson said.(PTI)
Woman kills son by throwing him into pond, hangs self from tree
TIKAMGARH (MP), Sep 28: A 26-year-old woman in Tikamgarh district allegedly killed her two-year-old son by throwing him into a pond and then hanged herself from a tree on Sunday, police said.The incident occurred under the Baldeogarh police station area limits, police saidI.Preliminary investigations revealed that Santoshi Lodhi used to quarrel frequently with her husband, and allegedly took the extreme step due to family discord.Police are investigating the case from various angles, the police added. One held with ambergris worth Rs 2.2 crore seized in Gujarat
AMRELI (Gujarat) , Sep 28: Gujarat police have seized ambergris (whale vomit) worth Rs 2.2 crore in Amreli district and arrested one person.The officlasarrested the accused, Ravi Bhaskar, with 40 small and large solid pieces of ambergris, weighing 2.199 kg.When questioned, the accused said that he had procured the substance in the neighbouring district of Bhavnagar and was planning to sell it.Ambergris is a waxy substance produced by the digestive system of sperm whales and is used in perfumes.(PTI)
