SHILLONG, Sep 29: Mawkynrew Primary Health Centre (PHC) was on Monday closed down by the Dorbar Shnong Mawkynrew and the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo People (FKJGP) Mawkynrew Circle alleging that no action had been taken on concerns they had raised four months ago with local MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh and the Health department regarding the PHC’s failure to provide essential healthcare services.
They have given the Health department a one-week deadline to resolve the manpower shortage at the PHC, including the appointment of doctors, nurses, and staff, to ensure proper delivery of healthcare services. The Dorbar Shnong and FKJGP also warned of stronger measures if no action is taken within the deadline.
Appealing to newly appointed Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, they urged immediate intervention to address the issue.
Later, the groups also inspected the Veterinary Dispensary in the area and reported the absence of a doctor, medicines, and other essential facilities. They called upon government authorities to take corrective measures at the earliest.
