SHILLONG, Oct 6: Former Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla, who was dropped from the State Cabinet during the recent reshuffle, has described the move as a “blessing in disguise,” saying it will allow him more time to be with his constituents.
“Nothing has changed. Now I’m getting more time for my people in the constituency,” Shylla said, adding that the decision to reshuffle the Cabinet was a collective one made by the United Democratic Party (UDP), which has the right to choose its representatives in the Cabinet.
He maintained that there is a strong sense of understanding and unity within the party, noting that the UDP does not require any formal agreement to decide on the duration of Cabinet tenures.
“Whenever the party feels the need to make changes in the Cabinet, all of us have happily and collectively accepted it,” he stated.
Clarifying that he harbours no resentment over being dropped, Shylla said he had served the people to the best of his ability and now looks forward to dedicating more time to his constituency.
He added that he wholeheartedly accepts the party’s decision.
It may be mentioned that Kyrmen Shylla, along with fellow UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh, was dropped from the State Cabinet and replaced by party president Metbah Lyngdoh and Lahkmen Rymbui.
Shylla said he is now awaiting the Chief Minister’s decision on his new assignment in the MDA government, even as the UDP has already tasked him with strengthening the party’s grassroots presence and promoting its ideology.
