GUWAHATI, Oct. 8: A two-day state executive meeting of Assam BJP will be held in Dibrugarh on October 9 and 10, where discussions will focus on the current political scenario and the party’s future course of action ahead of the all-important Assembly elections in the state next year.
Party sources here on Wednesday informed that the meeting would be attended by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Dilip Saikia, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state in-charge Harish Dwivedi, and Union minister of state Pabitra Margherita.
All state office-bearers, state presidents of various morchas, members of the core committee, state spokespersons, presidents of the 38 organisational districts, and district in-charges and co-in-charges have been instructed by the state committee to be present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the party has initiated extensive organisational activities after the conclusion of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. A meeting was held at the state BJP headquarters here on Wednesday to review the performance of the party in the BTC elections.
The meeting was attended by ministers and state office-bearers who served as observers for the BTC constituencies, district in-charges and co-in-charges who worked for the party’s organisational activities in the BTC elections, as well as presidents of the five BTC districts and both winning and defeated candidates.
State BJP president Dilip Saikia and state general secretary (organisation) G. R. Ravindra Raju, carried out a detailed constituency-wise review of the election.
It is noteworthy that the BJP, which contested the BTC elections alone, could secure only five seats.
Although the party fielded candidates in only 30 constituencies (compared to a lower number in 2020), it managed to receive over one lakh votes — a trend the party claimed was indicative of the growing public support for the BJP in BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region).
In a statement issued here, party spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami remarked that the results demonstrated BJP’s strengthened organisational base and expanding popularity in the region.
The spokesperson also claimed that under Gaurav Gogoi’s leadership, Congress faced a significant defeat in the BTC elections this time, exposing its lack of relevance in indigenous-dominated areas.
