SHILLONG, Oct 8: Ousted recently from the State Cabinet, Ampareen Lyngdoh has, however, expressed her willingness to play a constructive role in the government, saying that holding any position is not necessary for her to contribute effectively.
Lyngdoh said she conveyed her intent to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma during a recent meeting that she attended along with leaders from her constituency.
“Frankly speaking, I have not yet been approached regarding any new assignment. But I am not in favour of holding any position merely for the sake of it,” Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times on Wednesday.
She maintained that any assignment entrusted to her should allow her to deliver results and make a tangible impact.
Responding to queries, she said she had informed the chief minister that she remains available to assist the government whenever her participation or input is required. “I will share my observations wherever necessary if it benefits the government,” she said, acknowledging that there may not be any immediate role for her.
“I want to reaffirm that I will always be available if the government needs my suggestions. If the government assigns us any role that is positive and in the interest of the state, we are willing,” Lyngdoh added.
Reflecting on her previous tenure as the chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment, Lyngdoh said she was satisfied with the initiatives undertaken during that period. “I have done many positive things as the chairperson of the Assembly Committee. I have also travelled to several parts of the state to gain firsthand insight into the problems and issues affecting women,” she said.
Asked if she was satisfied with the chief minister’s explanation regarding her removal from the Cabinet, Lyngdoh said he had listened to their petition and taken cognizance of their concerns. “We are satisfied with the explanation given by the Chief Minister. We are under the command of the party and will not deviate from that,” she added.
