SHILLONG, Oct 8: Less than a month after the tragic case of a missing child in Nongrah, who was later found dead, another incident involving a seven-year-old boy has been reported from the same locality on Wednesday, once again sparking concern and anxiety among residents of Nongrah.
According to reports, the minor — an orphan living with his stepmother at Lum Myrboh Block-3 — went missing around 4 pm while playing near his home.
The Rangbah Shnong of Nongrah, Denis Lynrah, informed that the boy had been playing with his elder brother within the premises of their house.
He said the child left the house just as the stepmother was about to call them in for tea. Moments later, the younger boy was nowhere to be found.
Lynrah revealed that residents of the area, along with members of the Dorbar Shnong, immediately launched a search operation to trace the missing boy.
Police also arrived at the scene shortly after being informed and began their investigation into the matter.
When asked if there were any indications that the boy might have run away after being scolded, Lynrah said he had inquired with the family, who denied any such incident.
It may be recalled that on September 14, a four-year-old girl from Nongrah Nonglum had gone missing and was later found dead inside an under-construction building near her residence.
A 13-year-old boy, who was a neighbour of the victim’s family, later confessed during police interrogation that the girl had drowned. He admitted to taking her over a wall and through a beaten path to a nearby construction site.
The boy claimed that while washing mud off his feet in a water-filled cavity near a retaining wall, he slipped and accidentally pulled the girl along, causing her to drown.
