SHILLONG, Oct 8: The Dorbar Shnong of Wapungskur village in East Jaintia Hills on Wednesday lodged a formal complaint with JHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Thombor Shiwat, protesting against the ongoing installation of synthetic artificial football turf at the Wapungshnong playground, which the Dorbar claims falls under its jurisdiction.
In a letter submitted to the CEM, Waheh Shnong of Wapungskur, Postling Dkhar, stated that a group of individuals claiming to be engineers and labourers from the company entrusted with laying the turf arrived at the ground on Tuesday and began installation work without the knowledge or consent of the Dorbar Shnong.
Dkhar maintained that this act was carried out despite an earlier series of complaint petitions submitted to the JHADC seeking intervention and clarification on the project.
According to the Waheh Shnong, letters had been sent on July 31, August 27 and August 28 through the office of the CEM, accompanied by payments made to the Council as per Fund Rule 27(i), Appendix IV.
“The Dorbar Shnong Wapungskur had already taken up the matter officially with the JHADC, yet, to our dismay, work has commenced without our approval,” the complaint stated.
Following the incident, a meeting of the Dorbar Shnong was held on Wednesday, during which members unanimously condemned what they termed an “illegal act” and resolved to once again appeal to the JHADC to review the matter and take immediate corrective action.
The Dorbar emphasised that timely intervention by the JHADC is necessary to maintain peace and tranquillity between the two villages involved in the dispute. It further warned that should the authorities fail to act on the complaint, the Dorbar would be compelled to pursue legal recourse in accordance with the law.
The Dorbar Shnong also requested that the JHADC acknowledge receipt of the complaint and inform it of any action taken to resolve the issue.
