TURA, Oct 8: An FIR has been filed against two Forest officials of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) after a pick-up load of logs, which was allowed to be transported in exchange for cash, was later seized by another official from the same department.
The FIR was lodged with the Officer-in-Charge of Selsella Police Outpost by one Jamirul Islam of Silkata village under Rajabala.
According to the FIR, Islam was allowed to transport a pick-up load of logs meant for the construction of his house on September 25 after he paid an amount of ₹4,000 to a forester from the GHADC Selsella Forest Office.
However, another forester from the same office allegedly arrived at the site on September 26 and demanded ₹85,000 to allow the transport of the remaining logs.
When Islam refused, the logs, along with the pick-up truck, were reportedly seized and taken to the Selsella Forest Office by the second official. The vehicle was later released only after a payment of ₹35,000, allegedly made without any official receipt.
Alleging that the two GHADC officials had misused their positions by demanding money, Islam has sought legal action against them based on his FIR.
