Synod School wins singing competition as overall champs

SHILLONG, Oct 12: The third State-Level Interschool Traditional Singing Competition successfully concluded on Saturday at the Lariti Performing Centre with Synod School emerging as the overall champion for their outstanding performance showcasing traditional musical instruments. Meghalaya Public School topped the solo category for their impressive individual presentation.
Prizes were distributed to the winners.
Organised by the Department of Arts and Culture in collaboration with Shillong Public School, the event saw enthusiastic participation from schools across the state. Children, dressed in vibrant traditional attire, captivated the audience with performances featuring indigenous instruments and long-forgotten tribal melodies and rhythms.
Principal Secretary FR Kharkongor, in his address as the chief guest, spoke about the importance of staying connected to one’s culture and remaining rooted in nature. He also assured continued government support for such initiatives, noting that they serve the vital purpose of preserving, protecting, and promoting cultural authenticity. Kharkongor further urged the young participants to carry forward their heritage as “cultural ambassadors” of the next generation.
Padma Shri awardee Silbi Passah, who also attended the event, reminded the children of their rich cultural roots and enlivened the gathering with a spirited rendition of traditional phawars.
